DIY Knives Wall RackšŖ
Look, thereās something you should know about my wife...
You see, she has this unusual āobsessionā, so to call itā¦
She just canāt accept any other interior design style than the modern farmhouse style.
And if you think Iām obsessed with it alreadyā¦ wait till you see her!
Just to give you an idea, yesterday, while she was reaching for the bread knife, she spotted something that would fit perfectly in our kitchenā¦
The Wall Rack for Knives.
And not even 30 seconds passed before she started looking for DIY ways to craft her own rustic wall rackā¦
She then went into the garage and came back 37 minutes later with this:
Not gonna lie, I was super impressed.
So I made sure she sent me the full DIY guide,
And here I am to share it with you!
Materials Needed
Wood Plank: Choose a size that fits your space and the number of knives you want to hang. A piece of reclaimed wood works great for a rustic look.
Powerful Magnets: Neodymium magnets are strong and will hold your knives securely.
Wood Glue or Epoxy: To secure the magnets in the wood.
Drill and Drill Bits: For creating holes to insert the magnets.
Sandpaper: To smooth the wood.
Wood Stain or Finish: Optional, for aesthetic purposes.
Mounting Hardware: Depending on your preference and wall type, this could be screws, picture hanging strips, or a French cleat system.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Wood
Cut and Sand: If your wood plank isn't already the size you want, cut it to your desired dimensions. Sand the wood to remove any splinters or rough edges.
Finish the Wood: If you want, apply a stain or finish to the wood. This will protect the wood and enhance its appearance. Make sure to let it dry completely.
Step 2: Install the Magnets
Plan the Layout: Decide where you want the knives to hang and mark those spots on the wood. Make sure to space them out enough so the knives don't touch each other.
Drill Holes: Using a drill bit that matches the size of your magnets, drill holes at the marked spots. The holes should be as deep as the magnets are thick, so they sit flush with the wood surface.
Secure the Magnets: Apply wood glue or epoxy in the holes, then press the magnets into place. Ensure the magnets are flush with the wood surface or slightly recessed. Let the glue set according to the product's instructions.
Step 3: Mount the Rack
Choose the Mounting Method: Decide how you want to mount your rack. Screws directly into wall studs provide a secure mount. A French cleat system can give a floating look and is also very secure.
Attach the Hardware: Attach your chosen mounting hardware to the back of the wood plank.
Mount the Rack: Secure the rack to the wall according to the mounting hardware instructions. Ensure it's level and securely attached to the wall.
And there you have it my friend!
This whole process shouldn't take you more than 1 hour and $20,
