The forgotten farmhouse ruleš§
Hey, ever heard of the greenery rule?
The rule that says that a certain % of your land has to be greenery?
Look, I know it doesnāt sound like that big of a deal,
But please trust me when I say that greenery plays a huge role in transforming any house into a modern farmhouseā¦
I mean, just take a look at thisā¦
And listen, Iām not the only one who knows thisā¦
Even celebrities like Lauren Conrad leverage this same exact rule to give their home that modern farmhouse vibe.
So in this very email Iāve listed 5 tips to get your greenery right so you can take advantage of this rule.
#1 - Layer Your Greenery
Think of your garden in layers, Vlad. Start with taller trees or shrubs as your backdrop, add mid-height plants like ornamental grasses or bushy perennials in the middle, and finish with low ground covers or flowering plants at the front. This creates depth and draws the eye through your garden space.
#2 - Choose A Color Palette For Your Foliage
Not all greenery is just green! Choose plants with foliage in varying shades of green, as well as those with hints of other colors like silver, red, or purple. This adds subtle contrast and richness to your garden.
#3 - Play with Shapes and Textures
Mix plants with different leaf shapes and textures. Combine the fine, feathery leaves of a fern with the broad, glossy leaves of a hosta, for example. This contrast creates visual interest and highlights each plant's unique beauty.
#4 - Incorporate Evergreens
For year-round color and structure, include some evergreen shrubs or trees in your design. They'll provide a constant backdrop of greenery, keeping your garden looking lush even in the cooler months.
#5 - Use Climbing Plants for Vertical Interest
Take advantage of the vertical space by using climbing plants like ivy, clematis, or climbing roses. They can literally add a new dimension to your garden, covering walls or fences and integrating your modern farmhouse with the surrounding greenery.
However, I have to tell you, thereās a catchā¦
After you apply these tips and get your greenery right,
Your friend will start asking a ton of annoying questions like:
āHey , how did you do this?ā
āWow , did you do all this yourself?ā
But if youāre fine with that, wellā¦
Get right into it!
