What to do if you hate your farmhouse

Friend, you remember when we were all sucked down the modern farmhouse style?

There was a moment in particular when Chip and Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper,

(One of my all-time favorite shows by the way)

Came up with a more-farmhouse-than-modern style.

Quickly enough their products started popping up in every single store like Target and HomeGoods…

The result?

People rushed into this new style without giving it much thought and without realizing how unbalanced it was.

So if your modern farmhouse looks too farmhouse and not enough modern,

These are 4 simple things that you can do TODAY to re-modernize your home without breaking the bank or re-designing your entire home.

1. Let’s talk about the barn door

It's pretty much the poster child for farmhouse style.

These doors are great when you can't fit a pocket door or just don’t have enough room for a standard door.

Now, if you’ve got one, I think you should make it less “barny”.

You can swap out those big, bold hardware pieces for something hidden to dial down the rustic vibe and make it more modern.

2. If you have a shiplap…

If you have shiplap, just keep it going—it makes everything look together and not just like one standout wall.

You can cover the whole room with it, and it looks good.

Painting your shiplap a different color can also be a cool initiative to bring it to life.

3. Reclaimed wood

For a reclaimed wood wall, if you don't want to get rid of it, staining it all the same color can help.

When the wood pieces are all different colors, it looks off. If your wood wall sticks out, try to make it flat and stain it the same color to make it look better.

4. Colors

Instead of sticking to the old, boring wood and white walls combo,

Consider mixing colors like black, white, green, navy, gray, and maybe beige—adding little bits of color can liven up your space.

on top of that, just adding colorful things like lights, books, or blankets can make a big difference.

Now friend, I think it’s best if you take everything I said above with a grain of salt.

If you like your reclaimed wood wall as it is, just keep it…

If you like the traditional barn door, no need to change it…

But if you want to re-modernize your design, and do so on a budget,

Then I’m sure you’ll find the ideas above useful!

Anyway, don’t forget that we’re giving away a bronze hand-crafted doorbell worth well over $400,

And that YOU could be the lucky winner!
