Top 4 interior design mistakes ❌
Hey friend,
When I first started building my modern farmhouse, I had no money…
Me and my wife were saving every penny and putting it in our so-desired home.
And on one hand, it was great…
I mean, we could literally see the slow rise of our house…
But on the other hand, because I was still at the beginning of my farmhouse journey (and because we were so tight on our budget) we made some huge costly mistakes…
So I’m here today to share with you the top 4 mistakes we made when designing our first modern farmhouse,
So that you may save some money, time, and energy on yours.
My Top 4 Farmhouse Design Mistakes
#1 — Taking ‘modern farmhouse’ too literally
At first, I thought that a modern farmhouse had to follow specific rules and designs that every farmhouse shares,
Such as decors that read 'farm-fresh eggs' in the kitchen and ‘family’ in the living room…
However, soon enough I realized that it’s not about the decor, but more about the emotions it evokes.
So I opted for showcasing an antique egg basket on my shelving instead of the classic decor,
And that allowed me to evoke that authentic farmhouse feel while being original.
#2 — Too wild of a color pallet
There’s nothing to do, farmhouse style priorities neutral colors.
Neutral-toned spaces are essential to achieving that carefully crafted modern farmhouse aesthetic.
They provide a versatile canvas that allows you to combine different design elements,
Ensuring that your home strikes the perfect balance between too varied and too rural.
So please, don’t make the mistake of going too crazy with the colors.
#3 — Picking ‘new’ over ‘traditional’
The contemporary farmhouse style honors tradition!
So don't get rid of lived-in pieces, or try to replace them with new furniture…
A proper modern farmhouse is all about longevity, and character.
And remember, lived-in pieces are oftentimes what actually makes the design stand out!
#4 — Forgetting to add industrial elements
I used to think that a modern farmhouse had to be a strictly rustic wood fixture on a neutral color pattern…
But with time I realized that there’s nothing better than 2 aesthetics perfectly blended to infuse that 'contemporary' touch we want to have in a modern farmhouse.
Be it hanging light fixtures, or the use of steel or concrete for kitchen islands and countertops, mixing industrial touches with that rustic modern farmhouse style can’t be missed from your home.
And there you have it, 4 mistakes I made while building my own modern farmhouse that I will certainly not repeat…
And that I hope you’ll avoid, my friend…
That’s all for now, see you on Thursday ;)
